An arial view of the aftermath of that E F2 tornado shows just how devastating it was. It was just total devastation everywhere, insulation, metal just everywhere. Mayor Jeff Hazel declared a state of emergency to free up resources from the State of Ohio.

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea After settling for silver in the men 5,000 metres, Calgary speedskater Ted Jan Bloemen lamented that he didn have more in the tank to challenge Dutch great Sven Kramer for gold.

His tank was full of high grade octane on Thursday, as Bloemen dominated the competition in the men 10,000 metres and won the gold medal in an Olympic record time.

Skating with confidence and consistency in the second last pair, Bloemen laid down a time of twelve minutes, 39.77 seconds. It was a mark not even Kramer, one of the greatest speedskaters of all time, could match.

Perhaps daunted by the high bar set by Bloemen, Kramer flagged during his skate and finished a shocking sixth. Bloemen camp was so sure of victory that coach Bart Schouten gave the eventual Olympic champion a victory hug while Kramer still had 2,000 metres to skate.

Bloemen gold was part of a banner day for Canada Olympians that saw the luge relay team of Alex Gough, Sam Edney, Tristan Walker and Justin Snith win silver and pairs figure skaters Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford take bronze.

Meanwhile, Canada women hockey team finished the round robin undefeated with a 2 1 win over archrival United States. And the men opened with a convincing 5 1 win over Switzerland.

Canada sat third in the overall medal standings after six days of competition with 13 medals (four gold, five silver, four bronze). Norway leads with 17 medals, followed by 15 for Germany.

Canada four gold medals are fifth behind Germany (9), Norway (6), and the Netherlands and United States (5).

The 31 year old Bloemen, who moved from the Netherlands to Calgary four years ago to compete for Canada, added the Olympic record to his world record in the gruelling 10,

000 metre distance.

always felt from deep inside that I was able to do something special on the ice, but I was never able to show it. I had to find a different way to do it because I found I hit a wall in my career, Bloemen said on his move to Canada.

found that different way and got way more than I ever would have hoped. Jorrit Bergsma, the 2014 victor in the 10k, was second and briefly held the Olympic record with a time of 12:41.98 until Bloemen erased it in the next pairing.

Italy Nicola Tumolero took the bronze.

Toronto Jordan Belchos finished fifth with a career best time of 12:59.51.

Since arriving in Calgary in the spring of 2014, Bloemen has obtained his Canadian citizenship and married his Dutch wife Marlinde in a ceremony in Calgary.

Elsewhere, Canada earned its second Olympic luge medal in dramatic fashion as the relay team raced to a time of two minutes 24.872 seconds.

The powerhouse Germans won gold in 2:24.517 while Austria took bronze in 2:24.988.

The Canadians mobbed Walker and Snith after their doubles run put Canada atop the standings with just the Austrians and Germans to go.

The medal was redemption for the Canadian team, which finished fourth in the relay when it made its Olympic debut four years ago a mere tenth of a second back of third.

The foursome got bumped up to bronze for what would have been Canada first luge podium at a Games in December when two Russian competitors were among dozens of athletes from the host nation stripped of their 2014 results and banned for life for alleged doping violations by the International Olympic Committee.

But the Canadians were once again pushed back to fourth following the Court of Arbitration for Sport recent decision to overturn the punishment for 28 of those athletes, including lugers Albert Demchenko and Tatiana Ivanova.

shows the strength of our team. That fuelled us. That fuelled us for a long time, Edney said. just know that we put in all the hard work and we did everything right. Tonight was about sliding for each other and sliding for Canada, and we did that. secured Canada first ever Olympic medal in luge with a bronze in Tuesday women race.

Meanwhile, Duhamel and Radford ended a dry spell for Canada in pairs figure skating, capping their final Olympics with a bronze medal.

Duhamel of Lively, Ont., and Radford of Balmertown, Ont., finished third Thursday to give Canada its first Olympic pairs medal since Jamie Sale and David Pelletier captured gold in 2002 in Salt Lake City.

Duhamel and Radford, two time world champions competing in their final season, scored 153.33 points for their program to Adele Glory, and 230.15 total points.

Germany Aliona Savchenko and Bruno Massot won gold with 235.90 while reigning world champions Sui Wenging and Han Cong of China took silver with 235.47.

the sweetest (ending) it could possibly be right now, Radford said. don think that there any better way. don think there been happier bronze medallists than we are, added Duhamel.

It the second medal of the Games for Duhamel and Radford,

who helped lead Canada to gold in the team event earlier in the week.

The winning continued Thursday as Canada women hockey team clinched top spot in pool play by beating the arch rival Americans 2 1.

Say it ain’t snow. It’s not a dream or nightmare but reality: one of the biggest snowfalls in history just walloped the Texas gulf coast and has brought Houston to a crawl.

Mother Nature brought blockbuster amounts of snow to areas that only see it a few times per century where even half melted flurries are enough to drive kids out of their minds with excitement. I’m not talking Dallas or Amarillo or Lubbock. As of this entry, it is snowing and snowing heavily in, of all places, Brownsville, marking only the third time since 1895 they have received accumulating snowfall.

College Station, 90 miles northwest of Houston, recorded five inches of snow marking an unusual milestone: having received more snow this winter so far than Minneapolis (three inches).

Houston, what is soon to be the third largest city in the nation, came to a slippery halt overnight. The city saw widespread snow amounts between 1 and 3 inches and recorded its first snowfall in eight years and received accumulating snowfall before New York City and Boston.

Not one but two snow records were set in Houston. Before midnight, officially 0.1″ of snow fell at IAH setting a record for December 7th. The snow that accumulated after midnight totaled 0.6″ setting a record for December 8th. In total, just shy of an inch fell officially in Houston. The official snowiest December day on record is 2.5″ back in 1929. It’s important to remember that IAH is just one spot in a large metro area and many areas saw a good bit more than that.

The snow that fell in Houston Thursday also marked the second earliest snowfall ever recorded for the city.

Now granted these aren’t New England style records so those who are reading this in Boston,
ugg store london Record snow blankets Houston and Texas
Buffalo or Denver, try to keep the guffaws down to a quiet giggle. This is Texas after all and while it isn’t so unusual here, marquee amounts are especially along the gulf coast.

There’s an old adage around Houston that is well remembered by all locals that says “ever time Houston gets hit by a hurricane, it usually snows the following winter.” While that is not accurate, there seems to be an undeniable correlation, even if not totally true.

It’s also an interesting coincidence that when Houston last hosted the Super Bowl in 2004, the following winter the city recorded its first white Christmas and an incredible 13 inches fell in Brazoria county. Fast forward to 2017, Houston hosted Super Bowl 51 and has now been ‘buried’ with several inches of snow. Perhaps that’s the stronger correlation?

Snow in Houston is not unheard of. In fact, as of today, Houston has just recorded its 36th snowfall since 1895, the year Houston had a blizzard that would make even those in Cleveland go “hmmm.” Upwards of 20 inches fell on Valentines Day of that year.

However the snows are infrequent enough that it still rowels excitement to a frenzied pitch when the flakes begin flying in an area that is known for it’s air conditioners and stiffling humidity.

Few people are complaining. The oh’s and ah’s of kids and parents alike dancing in the streets well after midnight became common place in otherwise quiet neighborhoods on a school night.

The snow has now ended for the upper Texas coast and will soon conclude in the valley as well. Regardless,
ugg store london Record snow blankets Houston and Texas
the snowstorm of 2017 will long rage on in the minds of those who were here to witness this great white rain on the coastal plain.

TV’s great remake wave hasn’t crested yet. and Cagney and Lacey.

The moves follow CBS’ decision to order 13 episodes of Murphy Brown with original star Candice Bergen. CW, which launched a new version of Dynasty this season, ordered a pilot for a reboot of Charmed on Thursday and ABC picked up a pilot for a revival of a ’70s series, Get Christie Love. Original cast revivals of Will Grace on NBC and Roseanne on ABC are part of the current TV season.

The announcement of the Magnum and Cagney reboots, which would feature new casts, encountered quick blowback on Twitter. Some fans rejected any remake that doesn’t include Magnum’s Tom Selleck or Cagney and Lacey’s Sharon Gless and Tyne Daly in their original roles. Selleck currently stars in another CBS hit, Blue Bloods.

Magnum would be an updated remake of the original, which ran from 1980 to 1988. Thomas Magnum is still a former Navy Seal who becomes a private investigator in Hawaii, but this time he’s a veteran of the war in Afghanistan. He already has rebooted Hawaii Five 0 and MacGyver for CBS.

Cagney and Lacey, which starred Gless as Christine Cagney and Daly as Mary Beth Lacey when it ran from 1981 to 1988 on CBS, would still center on two female police detectives. In the original, they were stationed in New York. In the revival, they work in Los Angeles.

Negative Twitter reaction to the reboot announcements, especially Magnum, was fast.

Marcus S. Let not forget John Hillerman aka Higgins. RIP. It a sad day in time when the only thing people do in the 2010s is remake classics. Get your own ideas.

Marcus S. Sanchez Jr. tweeted that without Magnum’s Selleck and Cagney’s Gless and Daly, “the reboots aren’t gonna last more than a season.”Ruben D. Jam Today tweeted Baby Boomers “are hanging on to cultural relevance by their fingernails.”

And Petey Steele condemned the entire remake trend, citing Magnum, Cagney and Lacey and Murphy Brown, saying: “A moratorium on reboots is the only thing that will make America great again.”

The Kremlin has been flexing economic and political muscles on the world stage but the Russian economy is struggling to keep up. and European sanctions over Ukraine and military operations in Syria have all taken their toll. People across the country are feeling the pinch but rural areas are the hardest hit much of the countryside is empty and dying. Almost 36,000 villages, or one in four, have 10 residents or fewer. Another 20,000 are abandoned, according to the latest census. Young people left long ago for cities and towns the collective farms which once would have employed them disappeared along with the USSR. It’s a bleak picture but some young businessmen and women are trying to revive Russia’s dying villages with a mixture of traditional craftsmanship, social enterprise and shrewd marketing. In the impoverished Pskov Region, Kirill Vasilev employs 15 villagers to make Valenki felt boots made from dried sheep’s wool, the footwear of peasants and tsars for centuries. Traditionally, valenki come in brown, black, gray and white, but Vasilev produces versions in a variety of bright colours which he sells in a fashionable part of his native St Petersburg. Now he has plans to expand to London and New York. He is inspired by the world famous UGG boots and Crocs, which also had their origins in ethnic footwear for Australian and Dutch farmers. Will he succeed and what difference could it make to the village of Dolostsy on the Belarusian border? Got a good column idea for you, my editor said Monday. A fun one, one you’ll enjoy, he bragged.

It’ll be easy, he insisted. Fifteen reasons people should hate the New England Patriots.

Easy, huh? He thinks it’s “easy” and “fun” to pare down to 15 my running list of 17,542 reasons to hate the Patriots? Three more reasons cross my mind driving my son to school every morning. And I’m sure he’s going to want it to be kid friendly, too. No colorful language for effect? Come on. on Wednesday.”

Loved getting to know O’Brien those two seasons he served as Penn State’s head coach. Really. But if I had to hear one more story about how Danny Woodhead went to Chadron State and gritted out an NFL career, I’d have lost my mind. If I wanted to hear about how great the Patriots were, I’d have just turned on ESPN.

How many New England Patriots fans did you personally know living in Northeast Pennsylvania, or anywhere outside of Boston, in the 1990s? Zero? Now, we all know four or five who’ve been lifelong fans of the team ever since it came into existence in 2001.

These guys should start the season with an “x ” before their names in the standings. No team in any professional sport in this country, ever, has had as easy a road to the playoffs the last 15 years. The Jets? The Bills? The Dolphins? The Patriots are 6 0 before Brady even takes off his Uggs on the first Sunday every September.

Bill Belichick is clearly a smart guy. Probably the smartest in the league. But he coaches to the edge of the spirit of the rules, then uses the language of the rules as a crutch to defend himself when called out. And he does it just to show how smart he is.

10. They’re the media darlings

“Bill, Rob Gronkowski didn’t practice today. Is he suffering from an injury that might keep him out Sunday?”

“You’re right. I should just go away and let you prepare for the big game against Buffalo. Thanks so much for your time, oh great Bill!”

This is twice now twice that the Patriots have forced me to root for the Philadelphia Eagles. Sickening.

While I’m thinking about it, how many New England Patriots fans did you personally know who even lived in Boston in the 1990s? Zero? You might remember that after the 1993 season, the plan was to move the Patriots to St. Louis, where they’d become the St. Louis Stallions. And nobody in Boston really cared, because that franchise never won anything.

The Tuck Rule ruined officiating in the NFL, and it ruined replay. And the Patriots only challenged the play because they were desperate,
grey ugg boots sale Reasons to hate the Patriots
had no other choice, would literally have lost otherwise and were hoping officials might help them out. Which, you guessed it, they did.

Sorry, but you can’t look at the Patriots and not accept the fact that they drafted, and repeatedly vouched for the questionable character of, one of the two most notorious players in the league’s history. Then, they got credited for being no nonsense disciplinarians when they cut Hernandez after he was arrested. For murder.

Most NFL quarterbacks can get hit without penalty because “they might run.” But Brady is so unathletic, no official even considers that a possibility. You’re best to just let him throw and take his inevitable 6 yard completion to Chris Hogan, instead of the 15 they’ll get if you pat him on the back for a job well done after the throw. And then there’s his constant whining.

When it comes to challenging the boundaries of the rules, nobody does it better than the Patriots. They got caught videotaping the New York Jets’ sideline in 2007 and acted as if that was the first time they had ever done such a thing. We know better.

I don’t blame officials for “missing” so many calls during Patriots games, because the Patriots make it impossible to officiate their games. Pretty much every one of their pass routes is designed to have one receiver brush a defender off a fellow receiver. Which is illegal if done “intentionally,” but legal if done “accidentally.” The Pats are masters at the accidental pick.

A few weeks ago, someone I follow on Twitter posted a poll asking which team had overcome the most to make the playoffs. The first respondent said, “The Patriots, because the league hates us.” Meanwhile, the rest of us can’t think of a significant call that has gone against New England in almost 20 years. Yeah, but those obstacles the Patriots face are scary.

1. They suck the fun out of the game.

Part of me is glad they’ve been caught cheating, because if they didn’t, I’m not sure I’d care one way or another about this team.

What I used to love about the NFL was watching star players in big games, and outside of Brady and Gronk, they don’t bill their own best players as stars. I also used to love how often the offensive and defensive strategies had to change, because coaches were so good at figuring out how to stop the schemes that worked the year before. It made for a league that always seemed to be changing, always relied on its innovation. But the Patriots have just kind of taken such advantage of the rules restricting what defenses can do to receivers that it’s impossible to really stop what they figured out.

It’s so impressive that they caught lightning in a bottle and have managed to hold the lid on all this time. But at the same time, there is something so shady around what they’ve done that it almost diminishes it to those of us who don’t fawn over Belichick and Brady. It’s why I’ll be rooting so hard, Lord help me,
grey ugg boots sale Reasons to hate the Patriots
for the Eagles on Sunday night. And why the Patriots will probably ruin my Super Bowl Sunday once again.
