MADISON (AP) Officials in a southern Wisconsin county have proposed a large solar energy project.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports that Dane County is seeking proposals from private partners to build the project on land just north of the Dane County Regional Airport. The project would generate 8 megawatts of electricity on 41 acres of airport owned property.

The project would generate about three times more energy than a solar operation in Beloit, which is currently the largest in the region.

It’s uncertain how long the project would take,

how many solar panels would be used or how much money the project would cost because proposals are still being developed.

WASHINGTON Senators Jeff Merkley (D OR), Todd Young (R IN), Tim Kaine (D VA), and John McCain (R AZ) introduced a bipartisan Senate resolution Tuesday condemning the Burmese campaign of ethnic cleansing against the Rohingya and calling for the dignified, voluntary and sustainable return of the refugees who have been displaced by this violence.

They were also joined by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D CA), Thom Tillis (R NC), Dick Durbin (D IL), Marco Rubio (R FL), Chris Van Hollen (D MD), Ron Wyden (D OR), Edward J. Markey (D MA), Elizabeth Warren (D MA), Sherrod Brown (D OH), Tina Smith (D MN), and Chris Coons (D DE).

The resolution comes as planned repatriation from Bangladesh to Burma has been postponed amid fears that the repatriation as currently planned would be neither safe nor voluntary.

crimes that have been perpetrated against the Rohingya are horrific and will haunt us for generations to come, said Merkley, who led a congressional fact finding mission to Burma and Bangladesh in November. the refugee camps in Bangladesh, I spoke with Rohingya who described systemic campaigns of rape and murder. I was shown the burns of women who fled as their homes burned around them. I saw the drawings made by children that depicted the Burmese military shooting innocent villagers as they fled. After a campaign of such violent ethnic cleansing, we must ensure that any repatriation of the Rohingya to their homeland is voluntary, safe and dignified. I look forward to working with the administration and the international community to ensure refugee returns are voluntary, safe, and dignified, said Senator Young. estimated 23,000 Hoosiers have ties to Burma. I will continue to help lead bipartisan efforts in Congress with respect to Burma holding the government there accountable and fostering deeper ties between Americans and Burmese from all backgrounds. we are speaking with bipartisan unity in calling on Burma and Bangladesh to protect the Rohingya and ensure they can return home in a manner that is safe and dignified. These displaced families deserve to have confidence that their return will be safe, voluntary and dignified. The United States and the international community should stand for nothing less. Whereas villages and similar tactics in Burma dating back to colonial rule have been used to strategically shift population groups and deepen religious and cultural divides;

Whereas on December 12, 2017, Wa Lone and Kyaw Soe Oo, two journalists reporting and documenting atrocities against the Rohingya, were arrested and on January 10, 2018, formally prosecuted with violating the Secrets Act, further risking Burma democratic transition;

Whereas UNHCR, as of December 17, 2017, reports that conditions in Burma Rakhine State are not yet conducive to enable safe and sustainable return, as refugees continue to flee Rakhine State into neighboring Bangladesh;

Whereas UNHCR reports that those who arrive have suffered immense violence and trauma in Burma, with some having witnessed the deaths of family members and friends and most having little or nothing to return to, with their homes and villages destroyed; and

Five years ago, Meredith MacNeill moved home from England as a single mom without a job. In 2018, the Pictou County native is a cast member of two of the country most popular comedy series and is nominated for four Canadian Screen Awards.

She even defies the laws of physics by competing against herself in the best performance, sketch comedy category for her work on This Hour Has 22 Minutes and the Baroness Von Sketch Show, proving that you can be in two places at once.

in a pretty good position as an East Coaster, says MacNeill with a smile, just prior to a This Hour Has 22 Minutes rehearsal at CBC Bell Road studio. get to go to Toronto for part of the year, and then I get to come back and do 22 Minutes, which has been going for 25 years. I feel pretty lucky. But make no mistake, a lot of hard work went into becoming this funny, whether she delivering topical punchlines alongside Cathy Jones, Mark Critch, Shaun Majumder and Susan Kent on This Hour Has 22 Minutes, or contorting herself as the most physical of the Baroness Von Sketch Show quartet with Carolyn Taylor, Aurora Browne and Jennifer Whalen.

For a start, she grew up watching pioneers like Carol Burnett and CODCO/22 Minutes co founders Mary Walsh and Cathy Jones, whom she now works alongside. That was enough to stoke her desire to perform, attending Dal Theatre and joining Neptune Theatre Young Company and Shakespeare By the Sea before crossing the Atlantic to hone her skills at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

was watching women creators of a show writing what they wanted, based on what they saw around them and what affected their life, she recalls. things, relatable things, and I was fortunate enough as a young woman to see that happen.

Walsh and Cathy Jones, if they wanted to play men, they play men. If they wanted to play women, they play women. They embodied whatever would get the message across the best. So when I got the idea for an all female show, it wasn crazy to me, it wasn this mad idea. I just thought, is pretty possible.

In turn, her episode of Peep Show as manic Merry brought her to the attention of This Hour Has 22 Minutes producers after she moved back to Canada, landing her her first hometown gig after a period of writing and trying to drum up work. there was a lot more female fronted work, including women who were older, like French Saunders, Victoria Woods, Absolutely Fabulous,
ugg dakota slippers uk Meredith MacNeill is comedy's double dipper
and Smack the Pony, which was a huge influence for us, says MacNeill.

I wasn seeing a lot of female fronted shows in Canada, especially in comedy, and having experienced that on Man Stroke Woman, I started talking to Carolyn about it. here the thing and we started putting together what it would be.

That makes sense, though, as the sketch comedy series finds a broader audience beyond Canada borders, thanks to its sharp writing and performing, and expertly honed setpieces that are whittled down to their primal essence in a minute or two to become instantly shareable on social media.

Even though the show viewpoint is essentially that of women in their 30s and 40s, the cast members strive to make the material as relatable as possible to a wide audience. MacNeill can wring big laughs out of situations like being caught without her own bags at the grocery store checkout, or playing a woman sampling food left on other people tables while waiting for a brunch date.

She throws so much of herself into her sketches that even the process of writing them involves a great degree of physical performance.

not really a sitting down kind of person, so sometimes I become the character, and try things out and just do it, she explains. be typing away and then stand up and move around to see if I can actually do it. There was a sketch I wrote about forcing yourself to eat salad, called Psych Up Salad, and at the end of the sketch I fly across an eight or nine foot table.

else I knew I could do. I knew I could shove a lot of things in my mouth. goes, you sure you can And I go, can do it! But secretly I thinking, never done it! They got a stunt woman in just in case, but at 42 I knew I could absolutely do it, and I did. We got it in one shot. can really fit in the characters the way I want, and be them and do them, says MacNeill, who expects their material in future seasons will become more pointed in the wake of MeToo and TimesUp.

what happening now, there stuff I was writing or ideas that I had three years ago that were harder to get through the door, and now I think it might be a little easier to get those through, she says. are things that should be talked about that aren talked about enough, and I hope there be more of that in our next season.

daughter seven now, and I cannot begin to tell you the joy that I am feeling now with what happening with the women movement. When I look at my little girl and know that she won have to go through some of the same things these women have gone through. Or that, compared to my own personal experience, it be a little bit easier for her.

ugg clothing Merchants say West Hollywood’s fur ban doesn’t fit high

asos ugg boots Merchants say West Hollywood’s fur ban doesn’t fit high

A shopper goes through the inventory at a Kitson in Los Angeles.

The window display was one of several protests by merchants against West Hollywood’s first in the nation ban on fur apparel. After two years of debate, the ban takes effect Saturday.

West Hollywood is famous for its laws aimed at protecting creatures big and small. It declared itself a “cruelty free zone for animals” and passed a slew of animal friendly laws including bans on cat declawing; the retail sale of cats and dogs; and, just this week, exotic and wild animal performances.

But in the case of fur, the city’s zeal to protect animals is running up against its claim as a capital of high fashion. The boulevards in and around the city limits notably Beverly, Melrose and Robertson are lined with designer shops.

Although some residents praise the city’s socially conscious stand on fur, the ban has angered many business owners. Retailers with multiple locations are busily moving fur products to stores outside West Hollywood.

Independent boutiques, such as Darrel Adams’ Kin store on Sunset Boulevard, are seeing if suppliers will take back some of the fall fur coats on order. Furs make up a small fraction of Adams’ collections but are among the priciest items.

“The furs are sometimes the most expensive pieces in the collection, so it affects sales dramatically, especially if you sell it at a larger percentage,” he said. “To cut off someone’s big ticket item makes it hard for a business to survive.”

Darren Gold, chairman of the board of the West Hollywood Design District, said the city has worked hard to establish itself as a premier fashion destination, attracting a collection of both established luxury brands and independent designers. The ban, he said, is a slap in the face.

“It’s detrimental to our image as a West Coast fashion capital and could prevent fashion houses from choosing West Hollywood,” Gold said.

Despite its politically incorrect connotations, fur continues to be a mainstay on the catwalk. International fur sales were at $15.6 billion last year, including $1.3 billion nationally,
ugg clothing Merchants say West Hollywood's fur ban doesn't fit high
said Keith Kaplan, executive director of the Fur Information Council of America, a fur industry trade group. The organization, headquartered in West Hollywood, is considering a lawsuit to block the ban.

Genevieve Morrill, president and chief executive of the West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, has received numerous calls in recent days from retailers confused about what they can and cannot sell.

The ban applies only to “wearing apparel,” which includes shoes, hats and gloves but not pocketbooks and purses.

It includes shearling, a sheepskin or lambskin pelt that has gone through limited shearing. Popular Ugg boots that contain shearling are banned. Leather is not banned.

Fur blankets are not banned. But sleeved blankets containing fur and meant to be worn are. Secondhand stores selling used fur products are not affected.

A retailer caught selling fur can be charged with a misdemeanor if it receives more than three citations within a year.

Though the city is home to numerous interior design businesses as well as the Pacific Design Center, the ban does not apply to the sale of fur furniture or other non wearable items.

The ban is “a symbolic gesture that unfortunately affects businesses unfairly,” Morrill said. “In some cases, those products are the main lifeblood for the stores . and it will be devastating.”

The ban on fur apparel was approved in fall 2011, and city officials said they sought input from store owners and residents. During one boisterous seven hour hearing, hundreds of people many from out of town crowded into council chambers and gave council members a standing ovation after the vote.

“West Hollywood is a very progressive community that puts a lot of emphasis on social justice and welfare,” Councilman Jeffrey Prang said. “People care about the humane treatment of animals.”

Mayor Pro Tem John D’Amico campaigned on animal rights when running for City Council in 2011. He introduced the ban just after his election.

“We’re doing the best we can to live in the world the right way,” D’Amico said of the ordinance during a council meeting this week.

D’Amico and Prang said they know their ban is largely symbolic because fur is widely available just outside the city limits, in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills. But they hope the law sends a message.

For some merchants, it’s the wrong message.

David Klein, co owner of Goldsmith Klein, opened the Roberston Boulevard shop just down the street from the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. headquarters in August 2011, a few months before officials approved the ban.

Originally from Iowa, Mercedes Brandt made her way to the Med City in May 2017. She’s a visual artist and former barista who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic Technologies from the University of Northern Iowa, plus an Associate degree in Applied Arts in Professional Photography from Hawkeye Community College.

During the day, you can find the 26 year old at the 125 Live Center where she works as a Reservation Coordinator. All other hours of the day are dedicated to her photography business, M BRANDT PHOTO, as well as creating art, investing time in Gallery 24, and attending artist events all throughout the Rochester area.

After receiving my graphics degree, I worked for American Color Imaging where its lab prints thousands of photographs every day. After a year of printing, I was determined to learn what it would take to be one of those professional photographers, so I applied and was accepted into the Professional Photography Program at Hawkeye Community College. It was then that I fell in love with photography, especially the analog processes. I do not think I would have the same relationship with the art form if my first encounters were not film.

What types of photoshoots are you favorite?

My favorite subjects are photographed in studio where I am able to have total control of the lighting and the environment. I photograph everything from A to Z, including weddings, kiddos, engagements, families, special events, promotional images for small businesses, etc., but it all comes back to artists. I lose myself when I’m capturing creators and their work. Photographers like Arnold Newman, Irving Penn, and Annie Leibovitz all have careers which mirror my passions in the photographic world.

Colors/fabrics/patterns you tend to gravitate to?

Colors of all kinds and patterns always. I love stripes. Fat, thin, straight, horizontal, etc. When I was younger, I was always told not to wear stripes because it made me look heavy. Now that I’m older, I can embrace the true meaning of adulthood and wear stripes every damn day.

Where do you find outfit/style inspiration?

I look at tons of photos; many of them are professional images created by my favorite photographers. I don’t search the web for “fashion forward” trends, but I think I subconsciously gravitate toward styles found in the images I see. Inspiration mostly arises from how I’m feeling on any given day. My emotions play a huge part in how I dress.

What are the most essential components in your wardrobe?

Scarves, patterned wool socks, a decent selection of dapper cardigans, at least two blazers, and earrings to tie everything together.

My outfit just doesn’t feel complete without _______.

Layers! To feel comfortable, I need to have something to throw over my tops, even if it is warm. A blazer, a button down, cardigan, shawl, scarf, etc.

Take your pick: heels, flats or sneaks?

I’ve owned only one pair of sneakers. I attempted to wear them once while working out and immediately donated them to a second hand store the next day. When I was younger, heels. Nowadays, a trendy flat completes every outfit in my closet.

Any trends you’d love to give a go but are hesitant about?

What item(s) do you think are worth splurging on? And saving on?

I try to save on everything. I love secondhand shopping. However, when it comes to shoes, I find that you get what you pay for. My shoes are used more than any other piece in my closet. To keep all of them in tip top shape, I need a handful of quality soles.

Your style should be an extension of yourself. Don’t be consumed by the materialistic aspect of style, use it to project who you are. When someone tells you that you can’t wear stripes, wear stripes.

If you’re new to Tai Chi, it’s best to start with a class, although you’ll still need to practice the exercises on your own. A daily practice of 15 to 20 minutes seems to be the ideal; many Tai Chi masters advise practicing upon wakening and before going to sleep.

But other configurations such as 30 minutes a day four times a week also yield benefits. The key is to do it regularly. All you need to do Tai Chi is a few feet of space with a flat surface, comfortable clothes and a commitment. You may not see immediate results, however; it could take several weeks of practice before you start to notice changes in your health.

Tai Chi teachers are not necessarily medical professionals and they do not have to be licensed. Some may be accredited, however The International Association of Mind Body Professionals has an accreditation process for professionals in the field of acupuncture, naturopathy, meditation instruction, tai chi instruction, etc., and theAmerican Tai Chi Association has a searchable database of its members.

You shouldn’t have much trouble finding classes. Your local recreation center, YMCA/YWCA or martial arts school can probably point you in the right direction. If you have multiple sclerosis or arthritis, your local association may sponsor classes at a reduced rate. And some cities have Tai Chi schools. Finally, your health care professional may be able to offer some suggestions.

A variety of styles or schools of Tai Chi have evolved over time, reflecting both growth and development of the form in general as well as differences of style between different teachers. Elements from other martial arts forms have influenced Tai Chi and this has changed its character as well.

Most of the different styles or schools of Tai Chi have been given the surnames of their founders. There are many styles of Tai Chi that exist today, the most popular being:

Yang Style

Chen Style

Sun Style

Wu Style

Before you sign up for a class (many run in eight to 10 week sessions lasting one hour each), you may want to sit in on a session or two to make sure you will be comfortable. Consider class size, the instructor’s relationship with the pupils and the level of mastery the class seems to show. If you prefer one on one classes, individual training often is available. Prices vary widely.

The First Class

After a warm up, your instructor will teach you the various movements involved in Tai Chi. You’ll move slowly and gracefully, and your instructor will help you with the deep, relaxed breathing.

The movements or positions have names like Pay Respect to Buddha, Grasp the Bird’s Tail, Carry Tiger to the Mountain and White Crane Spreads Wings. Each sequence involves a series of positions that flow into one fluid set pattern or form with a defined beginning and end. A single form includes many positions; each form generally takes a few minutes to complete. It may be hard to remember all the movements at first but,
furry ugg boots Merced CA martial arts school
with practice, you will catch on. You learn through repetition.

In a class, you may perform several forms or just one. You may start out in a basic position: feet parallel and shoulder width apart, knees bent slightly, head slightly lifted, spine straight and arms loosely at your sides. Motions generally begin at the waist; your focus will remain in that general vicinity, too; the area of the body located about two inches below the navel is known as your tan tien, your center of movement. In Chinese medicine, it’s considered the center of the body’s chi. And breathing is an important part of Tai Chi your teacher will coach you: don’t hold your breath!

You won’t undergo a strenuous workout in a Tai Chi class it won’t be like aerobics, for instance. It’s often been compared to slow, controlled dancing along the lines of ballet. When you finish, you won’t feel exhausted, and unless it’s hot, you may not even perspire. You shouldn’t feel sore if you do, chances are you aren’t doing it right. Talk to your instructor about your technique.

There are no ill effects to Tai Chi, so it can be an enhancement to any regular exercise regimen. And it shouldn’t interfere with any medications or medical treatments. As mentioned earlier, however, it’s always advisable to check with your health care provider before embarking on any exercise program, particularly if you are out of shape, over 65 or have serious health problems. Also remember to inform your Tai Chi instructor if you have a medical condition and/or are under a health care professional’s treatment. Doctors suggest one should first rub with alcohol to clean the affected area, and then rinse it off with water, and then one can proceed to take a full bath with warm water and soap. The last step involves putting on some gloves and wiping down everything you may have had with you when it happened. Act fast and avoid the rash, find a pharmacy in Merced, CA near you.

knitted ugg slippers Mentorship from a former Sooner helping OU’s Orlando Brown become a force

NEW ORLEANS The first time former Oklahoma offensive lineman Jammal Brown met current Sooners left tackle Orlando Brown, an NFL player was talking to a chubby kid.

“He was a big, ol’ round doughboy,” Jammal said of his first encounter with Orlando, who was maybe 10 years old at the time. “Looked like he was pushing 350 then.”

The two met at a football camp through Orlando Brown Sr., better known as Zeus, who played 12 years in the NFL. The elder Brown briefly shared an agent with Jammal, who played at OU from 2000 04 and spent nine seasons in the NFL.

Little did either of them know that was the beginning of a relationship that would shape Orlando’s life and football career.

Zeus died in 2011 of diabetic ketoacidosis. Orlando has talked openly about his father’s death and the confusion he went through in the aftermath.

Orlando has viewed Jammal as a replacement father figure ever since, but the relationship became much closer when Orlando committed to OU.

“He’s like my dad,” Orlando said. “He’s my role model. He’s my father figure. I talk to him just about every day.”

When Orlando signed with OU, Jammal met with him and asked what he wanted to do with his time in Norman.

“He showed me that he was a real good listener and willing to work,” Jammal said. “He was lazy, but he was a real good listener and had the ambition of wanting to be a good player. So if you can just show me that, I can work with you.”

The two formed a partnership. Jammal spends his summers in Norman, where the two work out together.

Jammal related to Orlando on an emotional level and thought he could help Orlando become an NFL player. But in many ways, football was the easy part.

Orlando grew up going to an all boys school in Baltimore. After his father’s death, he went to a public high school in Atlanta, but was still behind on the ways of the world.

“It was almost like we had to start over with all the little things,” Jammal said.

That meant plenty of lessons on how to talk to girls. And a lot of guidance on how to dress.

“It was understanding, hey, you’re a big guy, but you don’t have to buy a 4X shirt and have it hanging off you,” Jammal said. “You can be a big guy and look neat and classy.”

On the field, Jammal helped shape Orlando through tough love. When Orlando thought he might come in and start as a freshman, Jammal set him straight. Brown ended up redshirting, but he was able to cut weight and adjust to college with less pressure.

Jammal saw that pay off for him when he stayed for a senior season in 2004 and ended up getting drafted in the first round.

“What he says goes,'” Orlando said.
