Deerfield Beach High School student Shannon Snell is looking to turn a summer program experience into a full time career when she graduates. Snell, who will be a sophomore, was one of about 300 lifeguards who put their skills on display during the recent James P. McCarthy Memorial Regional Surf Lifesaving Championships. The 15 year old from Pompano Beach, where the competition was staged, was a standout for that city’s junior lifeguards program and showcased her skills by capturing her first Beach Flags event title in the Girls A Division. The 19 year old Cuban born Huerta, one of the nation’s top juniors,
earned points to qualify for the Nov. 9 ITU World Championships in Cancun, Mexico, in the first of four junior races in the United States.
