News flash: The Sunrise Police Department has joined the big wide world of Twitter to post news you can use. The first tweet went out Monday, warning of flooding near three Sunrise intersections. Don’t expect useless information, said Sgt. Rodney Hailey. “We want to use it to send out important facts the department wants the public to be aware of. ” They’ll post their news in 140 characters or less and save the lengthier tomes for Facebook.

Town Crier Is Under Fire In Manors

WILTON MANORS When the city wants to spread the word, it relies on the Town Crier, a newsletter printed and delivered by the local Kiwanis Club. It is a grapevine of sorts for local residents, where they can find out about bulk garbage pickups,

recreational events and new developments. Through its ads, they learn about local business. The club prints more than 7,000 copies of the newsletter four times a year. Editorial content is provided by the city. It’s ugly. To be sure, the show’s writing is sharp, the vaudeville voices are decent and the themes timely (steroids, carbs, food allergies, quack psychologists). But its look is generic and uncontrolled; you almost wish it were a radio show. Like other undistinctive television cartoons, the figures on Dave the Barbarian have mismatched parts: some round, some ragged.

Mayor King Wilkinson’s plan was to deliver a heartfelt holiday message to residents. But some say he picked the wrong words. “I will not let the few malcontents who show up at every council meeting and do nothing but complain and bitch . influence me,” he wrote in a front page article published in the December issue of the city’s newsletter Town Crier. Lorraine Fletcher, Freedoms Foundation Awards Program Selection Committee, awarded city commissioners with the honor. The Freedoms Foundation is a national nonprofit organization that is dedicated to teaching young people the principles upon which the United States was founded. It’s ugly.
