State College, Centre County Multiple Centre County residents are safe after their apartment building caught fire Wednesday morning and they said timing was their saving grace.

Martina Drew, a tenant in the complex said around 9 o Wednesday morning she came home to flashing lights and emergency vehicles.

Officials said it unclear what sparked the flames but they were able to contain it within 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading and sparing Drew home.

“I don Honestly I at loss for words for what would happen if I did lose everything,” Drew said.

Fire crews said when responding to any fire, time is of the essence and for this case they made it to the scene in 3 minutes.

And it important for the public to know their role in that, especially for drivers who hear sirens or see flashing lights on the road; because you never know when yielding could save a home or save a life.

“Every time you see someone rushing by, an emergency response personnel, you kinda think thankful for what I have now and I hope that who they are responding to is okay,” Drew said.

The person living in the unit where the fire started was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.

But fire officials said things could been much worse had they not had timing on their side and three crews on deck.

“I mean it just comes down to minutes, seconds with how fast they can respond and if you have the staff to be able to do that and to respond quickly it definitely assuring to have that. So I thankful for that for sure,” Drew said.

Friday, according to police. At that time, Lipka allegedly abducted a 30 year old acquaintance at knifepoint in the Town of Ashland.

Lipka had been hiding in the victim’s vehicle and waiting for her to leave for work that morning, investigators said.

While there, the female was able to escape and solicit the help of a passing motorist who was driving on Cedar Street, state police said.

Troopers from the Horseheads barracks developed information that Lipka fled the scene and traveled to Tioga County. State police from the Owego and Endwell barracks eventually located Lipka on Long Creek Road in Owego.

During a brief pursuit that followed, Lipka reportedly struck a state police vehicle intentionally before his own car went off the road and overturned.

Lipka was returned to Chemung County and processed on the kidnapping charge. He was arraigned in Town of Southport Court and committed to the Chemung County Jail without bail.

State police were assisted by state parole officers.

Lipka was released from Orleans Correctional Facility in June after serving 17 months in prison for a Broome County conviction on drug and stolen property charges.

Antlion ModMic 5 A Microphone For Any Headphone

The PC and console gaming headset industry often sees manufacturers prey on uninformed consumers and sell overpriced units that simply don sound good or feel comfortable when compared to a decent pair of headphones from manufacturers like Sennheiser or Grado. That isn to say that every gaming headset out there is garbage, I personally love the HyperX Cloud Alpha and their included microphone, but many gaming headsets suffer from sub standard microphone quality and in scenarios where clear communication is essential, a high quality microphone is a must. Why does there have to be a sacrifice in microphone quality when using a headset? What if you can just eliminate the headset middleman and make your own headset, potentially superior to what any manufacturer is pushing on gamers? For users who want to take their favorite pair of Audio Technica, Beyerdynamics, Sennheiser, or other audiophile headset and add a quality microphone to them, Antlion produces the ModMic 5.

When ModMic was founded in 2011, they were a small outfit with an excellent idea. Able to be attached to any set of headphones using a clever magnetized mounting system, the ModMic offered a compact, modular microphone that was leaps and bounds above the typical fare found on gaming headsets. In 2012, the ModMic was fully released and it was a hit with PC enthusiasts and gamers looking for a viable, compact microphone that didn need to be desk mounted. Over the years, the ModMic continued to evolve and by the time the ModMic 4 was released in 2014, they had gained quite a bit of traction with the PC enthusiast community. While gaming headset design has improved and we seen headsets with increasingly good mic quality, the ModMic continued to evolve over the years and we are now at the ModMic 5 ($69.95 shipped), which is the companies best microphone yet.

Building upon the design of the previous ModMic 4, the latest ModMic 5 now features a dual capsule design,
sale ugg Antlion Audio ModMic 5 Modular Microphone Review
which allows for uni direction and omni directional recording modes. The ModMic 5 also features a modular cable system, which allows for varied cable lengths and improved cable management over previous versions of the ModMic. Antlion has improved the build quality and features of the ModMic with each iteration and the ModMic 5 is quite impressive, as its modular design allows it to remain compact and also fit in well on headsets that have integrated microphone inputs.

Antlion really takes care to cover all the bases with the ModMic 5. They ship the ModMic 5 in a small, well built carrying case with the Antlion logo printed across the front. The Antlion carrying case uses a zipper mechanism to open and close and has a quality feel to it.

There are pockets inside the case to hold the various accessories and components included with the ModMic 5. The presentation is great here, with everything sitting well and easily identified.

The ModMic 5 comes with two extension cables, one two meters and the other one meter. The 3.5 mm extension cables are well built, with flexible, sturdy connections on each end. The included extension cables ended up being perfect for my desktop use, as the one meter cable reached my recording device from my headset with a bit of slack, but not so much that it created a mess.

An in line mute box is included with the ModMic 5, but I didn find it necessary, since my PC has easy to toggle mute for the microphone. Still, it is nice to see Antlion consider all possibilities and include extras in the box that customers may need, rather than nickel and dime them to death.

Extra magnets, clips for the cables and an alcohol pad to clean off headphones are included in a small baggy with the ModMic 5. Antlion has taken care to include every accessory you will possibly need with the ModMic 5 and the extra mounting hardware is certainly welcome.

The ModMic 5 ships with a very helpful user guide. Not only are there basic illustrations present, the written instructions are complete and well written. Antlion puts links to their social media accounts and website on the instructions, should users have any questions.

Antlion provides a year of warranty coverage for the ModMic 5 and they have a solid support section on their website, which provides extensive information and answers to questions about their products. I feel that a year of support on the ModMic 5 is adequate, though it would be nice to see them extend the warranty to two years to instill a bite more consumer confidence.

It is with great sadness and concern that the third Chase business in as many months is closing down. The business was viable for many years, but in these though economic times, it cannot remain open. Chase is not unique in its present economic circumstance. Throughout many industrialized countries, we are witnessing the decline of the “small town.” It is not only the businesses that are affected in Chase but also services. As our village declines we become less desirable to medical personnel. This loss of services makes the community even less desirable or even practical for many who would contemplate moving here. As a community slips further into economic decline there are many social costs as well, such as increased crime, alcohol and drug addiction and family violence. Also, with this decline comes the increased need for medical care when the medical care itself is in jeopardy. In Chase and district we have two types of local government, Chase mayor and council and three First Nations chiefs and their councils. If we are to survive as a viable community we must see ourselves as one community. This brings me to the subject of the “Sun Peaks road.” Every Chamber of commerce board and every economic development study of this area in the last 20 years has come up with the same conclusion. The opening of an all season road to Sun Peaks would provide the greatest economic benefit. These are just a few of the economic “spin offs” of opening this access. Historically the issue of “the road” has been about land claims. The reality as I see it is that it could be many more years, if ever, that these claims are settled to everyone’s satisfaction. In the meantime we are witnessing the slow death of a once viable community. I understand the importance of maintaining culture,

language and entitled land claims, but as one elder expressed to me recently, “If we don’t do something to create jobs for our young people, we’ll have no one to teach language and culture to.” If our local First Nations leaders (some, not all) stay locked in their traditional stance of blocking any motion to developing an all weather access to Sun Peaks, they must also assume responsibility for the social and economic consequences. If our leaders lack the insight or fortitude to understand the critical importance of our current economic circumstance, it becomes essential that we the people must in no uncertain terms put pressure upon them. I know I’m not alone in this sentiment. If you feel as I do, I urge you to influence our leaders to make change. Unless you create change, change will create you. DR. When Julie West first saw the 30 km/h speed limits signs popping up along one of the busiest commuter roads in her south Edmonton suburb this fall, she was flabbergasted.

thought, the heck did I miss this? said West, who is plugged into her community and civic politics as vice president of the Yellowbird Community League.

In fact, when West asked around her neighbourhood about the new limit on the collector road beside Kaskitayo Park, no one had seen or heard the city rationale.

Residents had long wanted traffic calming measures of some form on some residential streets in the area where drivers speed, West said, but no one had ever asked the city for a radically lower limit on the 50 km/h commuter road around the massive park, where there no playground equipment and children rarely play.

only times there are people in that field is for adult sports games, adult baseball or adult ultimate, said West, who has 10 year old twin boys. never child events there. The kids don play there at all.

is frustrating, she says of the new limit. you want to be the safe driver, when you have kids and you know there are other kids nearby and you want to drive safely, I wouldn have a problem driving 30, and I feel glad about it if I recognized it made sense. But driving around that great big field, particularly when it completely unused in winter, there nobody there, it just doesn make sense to go 30.

West isn alone in her frustration. During the civic election, the new 30 km/h zones were the biggest issues for suburban voters in his ward, said Coun. Michael Walters.

Indeed, the issue is the latest skirmish in Edmonton war of the roads, which often pits the interests of drivers, transit users, cyclists and pedestrians against one another.

The war is a new one. There was no real conflict for the many decades when cars were king and pedestrians were nervous.

For generations, suburbs were designed for a car lifestyle, with collector and arterial roads built for speed.

If someone like former councillor and environmental activist Tooker Gomberg advocated for cycling infrastructure, he was regarded as a radical, not a visionary.

And whenever any individual or group pushed council to bring in lower speed limits around schools, council rebuffed them, instead taking the advice of city transportation engineers who insisted there would be no increased safety with such a move, just increased driver frustration.

In the last 10 years, however, a coalition of pedestrians, mass transit users, cyclists, traffic safety officials and a majority on council have pushed back hard against the car centric establishment. They made some major and necessary improvements, but not without taking some missteps.

The overzealous creation of 30 km/h zones on hundreds of green spaces in residential neighbourhoods appears to be another.

This week, council approved a motion by Walters to take another look at these playground zones and perhaps have the 30 km/h limit only in places where there are actual children playing on playground equipment.

This is what Walters and other councillors thought they were approving in the first place.

was a misunderstanding about how broadly this was going to be defined by many on council, maybe not by all on council, Walters said. don see the logic in having long stretches of collector roads by under utilized or non utilized parks being 30 km/h. And this needs to lead into the longer term plan for speed management and traffic safety in Edmonton. Walters doesn want is the current zones remaining in places where they don belong, then aggressive photo radar enforcement being set up. Such a plan would breed cynicism about photo radar being used inappropriately to raise money, Walters said.

As for the longer term plan, Walters said evidence supports moving to as low as 30 km/h on residential streets, then to 50 or even 60 km/h on suburban collector roads, except in the vicinity of schools and playground equipment, and then to possibly higher speeds on arterial roads.

of those speeds could be increased in my view because they are designed for higher speed than they are currently signed at, he said.

Walters plan is a sound one. It going to be a battle to get lower residential limits as well as some higher collector and arterial speed limits, but that the good fight in this ongoing war.

The Diner is known by most people for its Grilled Stickies. Rallis said when he first started out, he was making 10 trays of Stickies a day he now makes up to 200 trays a day. While The Diner may be closing, Rallis plans to continue making the sticky.

keeping the sticky. That is really the heart and soul of the diner,” Rallis said.

Rallis plans on building a new facility in Boalsburg. They will continue to be sold and grilled at Corner Room, the Creamery, the Waffle Shop, Penn Stater, Nittany Lion Inn and can be purchased boxed in various supermarkets. They are also shipped around the world.

“Getting new equipment, sheeters, rotating ovens will be much more efficient, and by efficient the quality will be increased,” Rallis said.

Rallis plans to bring his 15 or so employees to his new Stickie operation or his catering business. His catering business usually sells 800 1,000 meals on Thanksgiving for 50 cents.

Since the business has been around for years, many long time customers are sad to see it go.

“(I sad to see it go. I prefer someone breathe new life into it. It was always a great place, don know if there anything like it,” Penn State alum Cindy Covaleski said.

it disappointing that my husband and I can come and split a grilled sticky? Yeah, but maybe something better comes along, new tradition will be born, new generations will know that instead of the diner,” Penn State alum Kara Haberberger said.

Rallis said his lease is up April 21, but will close by April 1 if no one steps in to take over the business.

Anyone interested in taking over the restaurant can contact Rallis by stopping by the diner, or contacting ReMax Realty for the property. Rallis said a new owner could sell his product, but he would be involved.

Our latest bout of snowfall has certainly reached Greater Lafayette; heavy snowfall already affecting our northern half of the viewing area will continue to track due east, while another wave of organized snow continues to inch its way eastward across the southern half of the viewing area.According to the Strom Prediction Center of America, this system continue to yield snowfall rates up to one inch per hour as the band advances east. However, rates should gradually diminish later this evening and with eastward extent.By the time it all said and done, portions of northwestern counties could be left with as much as 4 of total accumulation. this is no slouch of a system. I expecting between 1.5 and 2 for Lafayette and West Lafayette but less than an inch for parts of our southernmost counties.Unfortunately, this isn the last of the snowfall on our extended forecast, there appear to be two more low pressure systems in our cards with snow chances written all over them. The first low will supply snowfall to the area expected to be hit hardest this evening, our northwestern counties, beginning late Tuesday evening. This round will last through sunrise on Wednesday and will drop an additional 1 of accumulation. Another low heads our way Thursday evening into Friday morning, possibly packing another snowy punch.

Michael Hogan, who played Col. Saul Tigh on “Battlestar Galactica,” will have a guest role on the second episode of “Dollhouse’s” second season.

Speaking of “Battlestar,” the show won the Program of the Year Award at Saturday’s Television Critics Awards. So say we all, am I right? Other winners are listed here.

Hogan, a Canadian actor, recently got a work visa that allows him to work here in the United States. Let this be the first of multiple and frequent roles for this fine actor on American TV. If you have ever read this column before, you know what a tremendous fan I am of his work on “Battlestar. ”

Read on for a bit more info on his role.

Hogan will play a customer of the Dollhouse who has used the services of the “dolls” in the past.

As you may know, Hogan is not the first “Battlestar” actor on “Dollhouse.” Tahmoh Penikett, “Battlestar’s” Helo, plays FBI agent Paul Ballard on the Fox show, which returns Sept. 25. And Jamie Bamber, “Battlestar’s” Apollo, guests on the first episode of “Dollhouse’s” second season.

I spoke recently to Enver Gjokaj, a “Dollhouse” cast member, and he said that he’s heavily featured in episode 2 of “Dollhouse’s” new season, an outing that was written by Tim Minear. I don’t know if Hogan and Gjokaj have scenes together, but all I can say is here’s hoping.

For my previous stories on “Dollhouse,” including a recent set visit, look here.

Now that you’ve been formally introduced to The ShoeZeum and officially welcomed, it’s time to really start getting into the good stuff. Does anybody out there like Air Jordans? If you consider yourself an admirer of the Air Jordan lineage, what you’re about to see is something truly breathtaking. If The ShoeZeum was only a quarter of its size and solely contained Jordan Geller’s nearly 500 pair Air Jordan collection, it would still easily be worth the trip out to San Diego. In truth, I think Mr. Obama was trying to tell us that he really just wants the whole world everybody, all of us to go back to can kinda see why Mr. Obama likes 1967. The president was six, no doubt presiding over his first grade class in Indonesia, but I sure he heard about how things were here. Anyway, I have heard that people know the date of which season 2 of the show starts so if any of you know just let me know. I love the show and really want to know how much longer I have to wait for another new episode!! Thanx!
