Probation officer, Brenda Raine, prepared a pre sentence report which said: Every year she gets into debt at Christmas and she wanted this time to be different.

Shes been living on benefits and shes not suitable for unpaid work. She has two adult children and she wanted to give her children a better Christmas.

Thompson pleaded guilty to 13 charges of possessing and intending to sell falsely trademarked goods, while charges against Mr Thompson were dropped as the pair appeared before Darlington magistrates.

The court heard that Thompson said in police interviews that she intended to close the page in October 2014, however evidence on her phone suggested there were plans to keep the Facebook page running beyond October.

And a search of the Thompsons home in September 2014 found a substantial amount of stock, including fake UGG slippers, boots and childrens boots, MAC make up cases, Chanel perfume and Adidas tracksuits.

Thompson was emotional throughout the hearing and mitigating, Graham Hunsley, said: This offence occurred because of a chance conversation with an acquaintance.

Shed bought a pair of genuine trainers for her son that cost 120 and they didnt last at all and the acquaintance said she would be better off getting fake ones that last just as well.
