Erie Flagship Niagara will soon have some company at the Erie Martime Museum!

The Flagship Niagara League (FNL) is excited to announce that the 1893 Essex, MA built fishing schooner Lettie G. Howard will offer programming at the Erie Maritime Museum. Brig Niagara, the two vessels will offer day sails to Museum visitors, the public, and the community. This is a two year programmatic collaboration.

With this programmatic collaboration, FNL will enhance the visitor experience at the Erie Maritime Museum while simultaneously expanding Niagara renowned and award winning sail training program. Lettie G. Howard, winner of Tall Ships America Sail Training Program of the Year award in 2014, will be offering public day sail programs to the Erie community while Niagara visits other ports during the 2018 and 2019 sailing seasons. The first public day sail is scheduled for May 25 in Erie. These two vessels, each educational and sail training platforms, will work together to advance the objectives of both the Flagship Niagara League and South Street Seaport Museum.

The union of these two well known organizations and sail training programs will also parallel another connection: the construction of the Erie Canal. Neither Erie nor New York City would be what they are today without the Erie Canal. This collaboration will directly connect New York City and Erie in ways that have not been possible since the Canal was superseded in 1918.

Flagship Niagara League has been working toward this collaboration for three years; to finally see it come to fruition is just incredible. The collaboration with South Street Seaport Museum and with the schooner Lettie G. Howard, will give us the opportunity to expand our services while enhancing the visitor experience at the Erie maritime Museum, says Executive Director Shawn Waskiewicz.

Capt. Jonathan Boulware, Executive Director of the South Street Seaport Museum spoke enthusiastically about the schooner voyage to Erie and the partnership. are thrilled with our programming and partnership with Flagship Niagara League and Erie Maritime Museum. Too often museum artifacts live under glass vitrines, but many of ours, including the much beloved Lettie G. Howard, clearly serve our mission as working artifacts. We could not be more proud to connect the New York harbor with Erie. It is also fitting that the schooner will make this voyage in 2018, the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal. New York City and Erie owe their existence to this vital inland waterway. The Erie Canal connected the heartland of America to the ports of the world, making New York the busiest port and the financial capital of the world.

Katherine Terrell, with her keen insight into the collective mind of the Who Dat Nation and razor sharp journalistic instincts, seems to know just what question to ask at just the right time.

Judging from the response to her question from earlier today, you, good readers, think so too.

Katherine, I know this question was in regards to the regular season, but I would like to include the playoffs just momentarily. The absolute worst loss for me was in 2006 against the Bears in the championship game. Having spent many previous years living in Chicago and knowing many Bears fans, I wanted to see the Saints whoop ’em! I was obviously disappointed. However, I wanted to share that game because I have never been SO angry over a football game in my life! In fact, there isn’t anything that comes close. I just remember my wife telling me she will never watch football again with me if I act like that! Hahahahahahah.

C’mon Katherine,

for old hats like me, the Sean Payton era has been incredible. I remember watching poor ole’ Archie getting the snap, than start running for his life to buy time to find someone, anyone, open. I remember the eras of Tom Fears, John North, JD Roberts, and all of the losing coaches that we have had over the years. I’m still pinching myself over 2009. For me, Payton can coach a game or two in a season that I’d be sorry that we lost and shoulda won. But, there ain’t nuthin’ that Sean Payton has done with the Saints that has, “bothered me most.” The three best acquisitions that the Saints have ever made are: Micky Loomis, Sean Payton, and of course, Drew Brees.

The leaders of Sherwood Pictures, the makers of the popular Christian themed film “Fireproof,” announced the name and premise of their next film, their fourth, on Sunday.

The movie is to be called “Courageous” and will focus on fatherhood, the leaders said.

Sherwood Pictures is an outreach ministry of Sherwood Church in Albany, Ga. The church’s senior pastor, the Rev. Michael Catt (at right) , along with the church’s executive pastor the Rev. Jim McBride and ministers Stephen and Alex Kendrick, made the announcement.

I’ve talked to Catt before for a column about the church’s movie making role, and spoke to Stephen Kendrick about “The Love Dare” book from “Fireproof” for a story. All seemed to be very passionate about the church’s venture into the arena of making movies with strong Christian content.

A news release was sent out about the recent annoucement. Alex Kendrick, the release said, briefly outlining the plot Sunday: “Four fathers who are all in law enforcement who protect and serve together go through a terrible tragedy,” he said. “They begin looking at their role as fathers . . . and they begin challenging one another to fulfill God’s intention for fathers.”

Catt said the single word title echoes God’s call for men to “rise with courage” in their homes and as leaders” at a time when numerous marriages end in divorce and more than one third of all children live away from their biological fathers.

“The statistics on fatherless children are devastating,” McBride said. “We believe God is calling men to rise up with strength and with leadership in their homes, with their families and with their children.”

All four leaders of Sherwood Pictures are husbands and fathers. Pastor Catt has two children; Pastor McBride has four; Stephen Kendrick has four; and Alex Kendrick has six.

Principle filming of “Courageous” is to begin in March 2010 in Albany. Like the previous three Sherwood films, the movie will be marketed by Provident Films. most people know of God and Jesus but very few really know the Holy spirit. I need to find and talk with the producers of these great movies. right now I’m out of work having had shoulder surgery and I’m touching as many lifes as I can throught Jesus Christ. I would love to be in your next film. Praying for God’s will. Recently I’ve become acquainted with a distant cousin. They are so special in many different ways. Stephanie and Jack have 2 biological children and have adopted 5 girls from Russia and Ukraine. They are so unique and they love your films. They have become followers of our Lord. I try to go visit with them 1 day a week. They thought they might be a good subject for a film. They asked me if I would write to you and suggest this. Thank you for your reading of this e mail. cheap uggs uk shop New look not likely to give boost to Crocs’ investment outlook

Crocs (Nasdaq: CROX) is going retro, but unfortunately for investors, it not flashing back to its heady days of growing sales and soaring shares. Instead, it simply trying a new and purely cosmetic twist on the old Crocs.

The shoe company is touting its new Crocband style, which supposedly gives a little sneaker edge to the Crocs lineup. These new Crocs pretty much look like the old Crocs, except for their white with a stripe soles, which recall the classic look of Chuck Taylor All Stars, the signature sneakers of Nike Converse division. While imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, how many consumers are out there wishing they didn have to choose between Chucks and Crocs?

Fading fads can be painful. Like investors in Heelys, Crocs shareholders have suffered from the company plunging stock price. We see this winter whether Deckers Outdoors UGG boots, long the fluffy footwear of the hip and famous, can eke out another year of popularity. At least Skechers seems adept at constantly reinventing its footwear, albeit with designs that admittedly touch on elements of recent trends.

Some investors will always maintain their love affair with stocks that have exciting stories, no matter how poorly the businesses do. Consider steering clear of Crocs, though, as its recent superficial tweaks may not make any real difference.

Q: I about to begin investing. I read that when it comes to mutual funds, I shouldn waste my time in anything but a low cost index fund. An S 500 fund will instantly have you invested in 500 of America biggest companies. (Many of them have substantial overseas operations, giving you some international exposure, too.) You can go even broader with something like Vanguard Total Stock Market index, which includes smaller and medium size companies, too. Look for index funds with low fees, such as ones from Vanguard.

If you want to try to beat the market, you might put some of your money into a few top notch managed mutual funds, where managers make lots of buy and sell decisions. Or invest in a few carefully chosen individual stocks. Index funds, though, are the easiest and will get you close to the market return, which is great for those without the time, interest or expertise to study funds and stocks. It simply the recent stock price divided by the earnings per share. A stock trading at $20 per share with $2 in EPS will have a P/E of 10 (20 divided by 2). If the stock splits 2 for 1, the shares will be priced at $10 and the EPS will also be halved, resulting in an unchanged P/E (10 divided by 1 is 10).

My dumbest investment

The Fool responds: It often good to place orders, which buy or sell at the going price, instead of orders, where you specify a minimum or maximum price. But it best to use market orders while the market is open, so you have a good idea of the going price. While the market is closed, big news can lead a stock to open later at a much higher or lower price, making market orders risky, as you learned. Shares of small companies can be especially volatile. Clearly, you weren the only one placing a buy order that weekend after reading about the company.

cheap womens ugg boots uk New England’s winning ways are getting old

Maybe depression spikes around this time of year not because of the holidays. People probably are just sick of watching the New England Patriots go to the playoffs again. The NFL’s most repetitive ritual involves the Patriots heading into another postseason, and here we go again. The Buffalo Bills will finish their season this afternoon against them in Gillette Stadium, but the Patriots will keep playing into January. Bill Belichick and Tom Brady this year were supposed to succumb to the same righteous forces that make sure vampires turn to cinders in the sunlight, werewolves are stopped dead by silver bullets and zombies crumble to the ground when cracked in the noggin.

The Patriots lost top receiver Wes Welker and awaiting trial tight end Aaron Hernandez before the season. Injuries wiped out tight end Rob Gronkowski, right tackle Sebastian Vollmer, defensive tackles Vince Wilfork and Tommy Kelly and linebacker Jerod Mayo.

But here come the Patriots anyway, relentless figures emerging from the miasma, barely breaking stride as they step over your team’s smoldering carcass and head back to the playoffs.

“Same old story,” Bills safety Jairus Byrd said, a look of agitated helplessness on his face. “It just gets old.”

The last time another AFC East team finished with more victories than the Patriots, a quarterback named Jay Fiedler guided the Miami Dolphins to the division title. Thurman Thomas was in their backfield.

“It would be nice to see some other people get on top of the division for a change,” Fiedler said this past week. “It looked early on like this year there’d be a shot for one of the other teams to take it.

“Lo and behold, here we are in Week 17, and Tom Brady and Bill Belichick are still on top.”

The year was 2000 when an AFC East team finished with more wins. The Patriots were 5 11. They were the only AFC East team with a losing record.

The Bills went 8 8, the first installment of a 14 year old playoff drought. Not a single member of that Bills roster is in the NFL anymore.

The NFL’s Defensive Rookie of the Year, Brian Urlacher, has completed a long, Hall of Fame career. The Seattle Seahawks were in the AFC. The Houston Texans didn’t exist. The Pittsburgh Steelers played in Three Rivers Stadium.

Players still wore single bar facemasks. Memorabilia collectors were on the lookout for Peter Warrick and Chad Pennington rookie cards.

“That’s definitely a long time ago,” Sam Madison said when informed how long the Patriots had been on top. Madison was an All Pro cornerback for the Dolphins in 2000. “That’s really shocking.

“That’s pretty amazing for a team to dominate a division the way they have in that manner. There’s just so much turnover in the National Football League, you’d think sooner or later one of the other three teams would have built a roster to knock these guys off. It just hasn’t really happened.”

Of the 53 players on Buffalo’s active roster for today’s game,
ankle uggs New England's winning ways are getting old
37 of them hadn’t reached high school the last time another AFC East club finished with more wins than New England.

“As a person who’s played in this division for a majority of my career, it’s frustrating,” said Bills safety Jim Leonhard, a ninth year veteran who spent three seasons with the New York Jets.

“You’ve got to give them a lot of respect. If you’re doing it year in and year out, you’re obviously doing something right.”

The Patriots have made winning a habit while drawing the ire of fans not among their faithful.

Brady is despised for his on field whining and his moated mansion and his Ugg boots and his supermodel wife who calls out receivers for dropping the ball and who gets photographed nursing her baby while getting a manicure and for his injured knee that changed how referees call penalties and for all his trophies.

So what that he’s arguably the greatest quarterback of all time, who might be the only player from New England’s three championship teams to get inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame? He’ll make it in his first year of eligibility, by the way.

As will Belichick, the sullen golem who runs up the score and got caught video taping opponents’ defensive signals and was stripped of a first round draft pick and doesn’t always shake the other coach’s hand properly and goes for it on fourth down and is just so arrogant that people can’t stand the sight of his hoodie.

The Patriots had the gall to trademark 19 0 before they went the full, unblemished distance in 2007. The New York Giants upset the Patriots in the Super Bowl.

Madison started at cornerback for those Giants. He conceded jolting the theretofore undefeated Patriots makes his Super Bowl ring sparkle a little more.

“It felt good to make those guys 18 1,” Madison said. “Can you only imagine? To have to deal with the Patriots and their fans? It would have been something else.”

Even so, New England is a contemporary dynasty. Parity has been an irrelevant concept to the organization.

New England seemed vulnerable this year, with so many personnel concerns and the potential for off field distractions. Both defensive captains were on injured reserve by Oct. 16.

Brady appeared more mortal than ever when the season began. His passer rating was below 75.0 for six of his first eight games. In October, he threw two touchdowns and four interceptions and got sacked 16 times.

“This is that year everybody said, ‘Hey, if we really want to be in contention and have a chance to knock these guys off, this will be the year,’ ” Madison said.

“Once again, Tom Brady, no matter who you put on the football field with him, he’s going to make things happen. They’re still one of the best teams in the NFL,
ankle uggs New England's winning ways are getting old
even though they don’t have all their weapons.”

ankle ugg boots New discovery may be step toward ending malaria

Worldwide elimination of malaria would save hundreds of thousands of lives each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). But eradication remains elusive, because the parasite that causes the disease can evolve to withstand the effects of new malaria drugs and become drug resistant.

Researchers, however, now believe they have discovered a way to track the spread of drug resistant malaria, and this discovery may help to finally eradicate the disease. Their study was recently published in the journal Nature Genetics. “It starts in Cambodia, spreads across Southeast Asia and crosses over to Africa, killing millions of children in the process.”

Resistance to artemisinins the group of drugs doctors currently use to treat malaria has been noticed in Cambodia in recent years, sparking concern that an untreatable type of malaria could spread worldwide.

But an international team of researchers says it has identified unique genetic fingerprints for artemisinin resistant strains of the parasite. This, they say, may help detect and contain this hard to treat form of malaria before it spreads worldwide. They remain unsure, however, how soon humans might benefit.

Researchers looked at the genes of 825 malaria causing parasites collected from 10 locations across Africa and Southeast Asia.

They found three previously undiscovered artemisinin resistant strains of the parasite in western Cambodia. Each had a specific genetic makeup not seen in any other type of malaria causing parasite.

This identification of genetic fingerprints specific to artemisinin resistant malaria parasites is a significant step towards tracking and eventually stopping the spread of this type of malaria, said White.

In the future, the genetic fingerprints identified by the researchers could be used to create a blood test that may predict whether someone with malaria will respond to treatment with artemisinin, said WHO Global Malaria Program coordinator Dr. Pascal Ringwald. “Being able to test people in this way should quickly reveal which parts of the world the resistance has spread to,” said Ringwald.

Scientists can then push strategies, such as compulsory use of preventive medicines for travelers coming into these areas, to keep this type of malaria from moving beyond these areas, he added.

The WHO reports that global deaths from malaria have fallen by more than 25% since 2000, but around 3.3 billion people remain at risk of the disease most of them children younger than 5.

The worst disease of mankind, malaria, a disease that has killed more humans than all the wars of mankind, was finally defeated and the defeat was proven a fact by the Red Cross on the 16th of December 2012. The location was Africa, in the country of Uganda, Luuka District. Total scientific testing was maintained throughout the 4 day operation. There were doctors to sign off on the blood tests, malaria test strips to show malaria, and official microscope technicians to even verify the number of malaria parasites present in each malaria victim. The microscope technicians have officially identified malaria parasites on a daily basis. Other personnel present were nurses to help the doctors, video technicians, people to serve as observers and various other personnel.

Klaas Proesmans, a prominent Red Cross figure and CEO of the Water Reference Center of the International Red Cross, told me that he had wondered if there might be some truth in the claim by the Genesis 2 Church that MMS (chlorine dioxide) actually killed malaria and returned health to malaria victims. He finally decided to personally finance a full scale malaria clinical trial in the jungle on actual malaria victims rather than laboratory rats.

Klaas Proesmans came to our seminar in Mexico that teaches the use of chlorine dioxide to cure diseases. He arrived here in Mexico about 2 months before the actual clinical trial of the 4 days that was from the 11th to the 16th of December, 2012, in Uganda. He said to me at that time that he really didn’t think chlorine dioxide worked to cure diseases but he felt it was his job to prove it one way or the other. At the time of this clinical trial many diseases were treated, but the disease of interest was malaria. And 154 cases of malaria were given doses of MMS which, of course, was chlorine dioxide. All 154 cases were free of malaria within 24 hours of taking the dose, with only 11 cases requiring a second dose. This was all recorded on DVD and on paper with signatures of doctors and technicians. There was no chance of mistake. One hundred and fifty four cases of malaria were made well. We have the original DVD’s, plus copies of the DVD’s, copies of the signatures or even actual signatures, as well as copies of all papers and signatures of those who were cured. All of this will be recorded on YouTube with the exception of the signatures of the malaria victims, as that takes individual permission, but the signatures are available for use in court if needed.

There was some worry about possible side effects to people taking MMS, but since chlorine dioxide is used to purify water in thousands of municipal water purification systems and used for treating vegetables around the world,
cheap ugg style boots uk New discovery may be step toward ending malaria
there are numerous tests showing the safety of ingesting chlorine dioxide. Millions of people have been ingesting chlorine dioxide for nearly a hundred years. At this time as many as 10 million people have used chlorine dioxide to overcome diseases. For the 15 years since I first began to treat people for diseases there have been no recorded deaths or permanent damage to a single human being.

Some further details: I can’t praise Klaas Proesmans enough for his forward looking, personal responsibility towards the human race. That he would personally arrange this malaria clinical trial by first insisting and then financing the clinical trial itself is monumental. If the information gets used, Klaas will have saved thousands of lives, many thousands, even millions of lives. These malaria victims, children and adults, who are at this moment dying, are no less valuable than all the other people of the world. Who knows, one of them might grow up to save the human race. We can save them so why don’t we?

The greatest cause of poverty in Africa is malaria. The millions of sick people are needed to work in the fields. Without malaria poverty will be almost non existent. Imagine if there were 80 million people sick with malaria in the US. We could easily soon have the same poverty rampant in America. So we need to save those lives.

But to save lives we need your help: We must get this information out to the world. If you never help ever again, this time humanity needs your help. Mankind must know about this development. This is one time that what you personally do will have a direct effect on saving lives, not theoretically, actually. It is so important that we get this information to our friends, magazines, newspapers, TV stations, radio stations, web radio stations, and government officials such as Mayors and Governors because thousands of lives depend upon it.

More than 3000 children die from malaria every day. Science has proven again and again that it can solve any problem presented to it. The idea that we need to allow our children to suffer to their death because there are too many people on Earth is totally repugnant, but there are people who suggest it. I know that there are medical people who would spend years testing MMS while children and adults die from malaria, but ask any one of those who are dying if they would rather die than maybe have some minor side effect that has not yet shown up. And of course you will find that no one wants that. So since I have already tested it for 15 years, are we going to go ahead and save those 3000 who die each day or do we spend another year testing while more than 1 million die from malaria?

You know the answer to that. We have to save all that we can save right now.

But the real question is, WHAT IS THE RED CROSS GOING TO DO?

I’m not going to say a lot right now because we want to give the Red Cross time to do the “right thing.”

Let me ask you again but a little more to the point. Please, please, send this NEWSLETTER out to as many people as you can. This is one of those few times that what you do will make a difference. No matter who you are or where you are, if you will send out this newsletter to friends and just anyone, the chances are 99% that you will affect at least one life in Africa. They could be saved and that would be at least one person who no longer need suffer. And chances are very high it would be a lot more. And maybe, just maybe, the letter you send out will go to the right person and it will cause a million lives to be saved.

Please understand. Right now we are dealing in human lives. This NEWSLETTER is dealing in lives. What you do now will determine how many live and how many die. And I mean you. Of course, I know there are thousands of others besides you, but you will still have a direct effect. I am not begging for a few dollars, or a couple of dimes. I am asking you for someone’s life that will cost you only a few moments of your time. THE RED CROSS HAS HAD THE ANSWER TO SAVING THOSE LIVES FOR 5 MONTHS NOW AND NOT A SINGLE LIFE SAVED SINCE THE TESTING. If enough people learn about this, a voice will go up loud enough to get something done, and there will be people who want to do things themselves to help. If you have never sent any kind of a humanitarian letter anywhere, and if you have never given a beggar a dime, or helped an old lady across the street, and you will never do a thing in the future in a humanitarian way, now is the time to do just this one thing. Do something; send this letter out to as many people as you can. That’s all I am asking, send this letter out, please.

Australian F 18 fighter jets destined for 4 Wing Cold Lake to supplement Canada aging CF 18 fighter fleet will require upgrades to their ejection seats and external aircraft lighting before they can take to the skies with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Additionally, the 18 Hornets, which first entered service in Australia in the late 1980s, will undergo aircraft structure modifications to address known fatigue issues similar to a program that was implemented to remedy similar issues with the CF 18s.

Canada CF 18 numbers have dropped by more than half to 76 aircraft from a peak of 138 but the Liberal government in June last year announced plans to buy 88 new fighter aircraft in a project that could cost as much as $19 billion.

The Australian jets are required as a stop gap measure because of the timing between receiving the new planes and retirement of the older planes.

The CF 18s have most recently been used as part of Operation Reassurance in eastern Europe.

They were also deployed as part of the Middle East Stabilization Force in Iraq and Syria where they conducted 1,378 sorties and were involved in 251 airstrikes on ISIL targets.

aircraft will be retired when either their safe structural life has expired, or they are no longer required given the delivery of the permanent fleet,
ugg boats New Australian fighters to call Cold Lake home
said Department of National Defence spokesperson Jessica Lamirande.

is anticipated that the supplemental aircraft will be in service for several years, sufficient to ensure the capability gap is filled until the transition to the permanent CF 18 replacement that commences in the second half of the 2020s is complete. said Canada invested in the development of additional structural modifications which, after being applied to Canadian aircraft, could also be applied to Australian aircraft that would further extend their service.

Postmedia has previously reported that the CF 18s had been scheduled to be removed from service around 2025 but that timeline has been extended to 2032.

As negotiation between Australian and Canadian governments are ongoing, exact details of the deal and how much it will cost to modify the Hornets have yet to be finalized, she said.

Defence officials are still reviewing infrastructure and personnel requirements required to accommodate additional aircraft to Canada busiest fighter base in northern Alberta,

The Broadway version is the one with the female Peter Pan; Tinkerbell is not a character, just a light, so shes an image on our stage, she said. So its very different from the Disney version of Peter Pan; its the original 1929 version.

Despite the differences, its still basically the same story, McCormick said.

Its the story of the Darling family that meets a mythical young man .. named Peter Pan, who comes into their home and entices the Darling children to come away with him to Neverland, she said. They go to Neverland and meet the Lost Boys. There are pirates and the Brave Girls .. They meet them all in Neverland, and they go on quite the adventures, and then they come back home.

Kamryn Murray portrays Wendy Darling. Wendy is hard to describe, Murray said.

Shes very sweet, and I guess shes mature, she said. She wants to be a mother, and shes just that kind of little girl who always dreams of having a family.

Murray said Wendy acts older than she actually is.

Elle Renaud portrays the title character Peter Pan.

She said her character is immature and the exact opposite of Wendy.

I always want to be a little boy and always live with the lost boys and just have a good time, she said. I never,
leather ugg boots Never grow up in Neverland
ever want to grow up.

Throughout the musical, Wendy and Peter inadvertently help each other change, Renaud and Murray said. The Peter Pan character, Renaud said, acquires some maturity.

My character develops a lot, she said. Peter becomes a father of the Lost Boys once Wendy comes, and Wendy matures me a little bit more. Were still like little boys and girls, but at the same time the Darling family .. teaches me how to kind of be a father.

Murray said Wendy learns how to relax and enjoy life.

I feel like shes the same person .. but I kind of think Peter helps her have a little more fun and stuff, Murray said.

Its a fun story to present, McCormick said.

This is a classic fairy tale, and I think .. its just kind of fun to bring that whole story to life and let the audience be part of it, she said.

The fairy tale aspect is what Murray enjoys about the musical.

I like how its very fun to play because its sort of like a fairy tale, she said. I like how its very silly yet serious.

Matthew Hennessey, who plays Captain Hook, agrees.

Its one of those more classical, whimsical tales lots of people know it, he said. I just like the idea of being a kid again,

and I hope (the audience) get the idea of what it feels like to be a kid again.

If you stand long enough in a Nevada ghost town, whispering winds may carry the voices of lost souls.

And while staying in a reportedly haunted hotel, as our group did on a recent visit, you may glimpse someone not quite there.

No sound emerged.

“I’ve never experienced her,” dining room manager Bruce Jabbour remarked later.

Then server Nicole Scobee shared her photo of a woman’s shadowy shape beside a smaller figure, who reportedly asked a cook “where’s David?”

It all adds to the mystique of what, in 1907, was the most luxurious hotel between San Francisco and Denver. That was after miners hit paydirt in the former “Queen of the Silver Camps.”

But the good times were fleeting, and the Mizpah eventually closed. New owners re opened it in 2011.

Would you dare visit a haunted town at Halloween?Much of nearby Goldfield (current population 268) burned in 1923, but many buildings in the former boomtown once home to 20,000 residents survived. A miner’s saloon, vacant hotel, courthouse and high school, rustic cars, plus a mine locomotive date back to its heyday from 1903 40, when gold production totalled $86 million.

Visitors are sure to hear about swindlers and a short term lawman “Virgil Earp who died there of pneumonia, after which his more famous brother Wyatt quit his job as a casino pit boss and left for California.

Despite the decline, gold exploration continues, off and on, in the area.

With Herb Robbins maintaining three old fire trucks, Gold Point’s 27 residents feel safe.

Ranchers came first, silver miners in 1902, then gold seekers in 1927. With little water, no railroad and claim jumpers, however, the 1,

“It’s not open as a tourist resort, but Robbins who bought half the town after winning $222,000 in a Las Vegas casino welcomes visitors.

The fire marshal, sheriff and mayor rents out five cabins and the small home of late Senator Harry”Wiley. Robbins also keeps the post office (closed in 1978) intact and has a memento filled casino bar.

“Everyone has full access to my house for showers and water,” plus meals, the 61 year old Robbins said.

You can also visit false front western shops, including a mercantile.

And if you’ve ever had a hankering to buy a ghost town, for “$2 million cash I’d consider” selling (my share), Robbins said. (Esmeralda County owns the other half.)Just west of the bustling town of Beatty, off State Route 374 in the Bullfrog Hills, Rhyolite is one of Nevada’s most famous “ghosts.”

A boomtown of 5,000 from 1904 08, Rhyolite had several stone and concrete buildings, hotels, 53 saloons, banks, an ice plant, two electric plants, foundries, newspapers, a hospital, an opera house and a stock exchange.

But predictions of gold riches turned to dust, and by 1916 the lights were dimmed and most people gone. Scores of wooden buildings were moved elsewhere. Hollywood later made films and the ruins became a tourist attraction.

Little remains, but visitors can see the ruins of Rhyolite’s two storey stone school, a three storey bank, a 1906 house built with 50,000 wine and beer bottles,

plus the de railed railway station.

BUSINESS is all about relationships.

And the best relationships do not form by accident. They often begin at one of the many networking dinners, meetings, breakfasts and special events held on the Sunshine Coast every month.

No matter how large a region or city gets, word of mouth recommendations and a trusted acquaintance telling you, know someone who could help you with that will win out over random searches online or a vague flick through the Yellow Pages every time.

Prime Radio client manager Sally Waghorn started a networking club with a difference, aimed directly at young businesswomen, about four months ago.

The emphasis at Le Club De Femmes is on fun and creating an inspiring support network, rather than swapping business cards or hard and fast referrals.

had been to a number of chamber events and business referrals clubs and I wanted to develop something that was a bit more personal, she said.

order to refer somebody business, you need to get to know their business as well as get to know the business owner.

have replaced an obligation to refer with creating new and inspiring connections.

might not use each other business directly, but that okay. If we get to know each other business that may happen down the track.

Ms Waghorn said the first meeting started with 14 attendees, then grew to 24 and 36. Up to 40 people are expected at the next event at Sunshine Coast Honda on July 22.

There are no membership fees, no meeting fees and no strict criteria for entry you can arrive late and Ms Waghorn said she would even consider including men eventually.

Each meeting carries a theme, with the June event an Ugg boot garden party at sponsor business Urban Ponds in Mooloolaba and the next event and wheels

want it to be fun, she said. been to a lot of meetings that can get a bit boring, so we try and liven it up a bit.

time we meet, we go around and everybody introduces themselves.

is laidback and very casual and it gives people a voice who might feel a bit out of place at a big networking group.

want to create a support network to connect young business women, whether that young in business or young at heart. There is no age limit and we not stuck on only having one person from each industry.

is a really good energy about the group, and after every meeting my inbox is flooded with emails saying how great it was and what a breath of fresh air it was.

At the other end of the spectrum is global networking powerhouse organisation BNI (Business Network International).

Southern Cross Design Drafting director Ted Larson was a founding member of the Team Winning Edge chapter when it began in 2008.

The club, which has 50 members, was inducted into the hall of fame at the world BNI conference in Kuala Lumpur a week ago.

won the award for being Australia largest and most successful club, Mr Larson said.

was a great honour to accept the award on behalf of our local BNI director Rob Warburton.

were 506 delegates from 41 countries and a range of seminars and master classes.

Mr Larson also took the opportunity to arrange a one on one meeting with world BNI CEO Norm Dominguez while in Malaysia.

were asking me why I was going to the world conference and I told them I was going to sit down and meet the boss, he said.

became a goal of mine. And I used the network to make it happen. So we ended up having a couple of beers for a few hours in the Mandarin Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

talked about BNI and how critical networking has become in today business world. It really is the new way of doing business. The two core values of BNI are Gain and the way the world does business

Malaysia is such a good entry point into Asia. There may be 17 recognised languages there but English is the common business language so it a great place to start doing business in that part of the world.

Mr Larson said he picked up good business leads from Singapore, Malaysia and India as a result of the conference. He is also likely to visit co national director of BNI India, Niiraj Shah, next year for his 40th birthday and that country national conference in February.
