The police recovered an order list and more than 100 items of fake clothing and footwear from the Ravies vehicle, which were passed on to North Yorkshire County Councils trading standards service.

Items seized included counterfeit Adidas, Converse and Nike trainers; Adidas, Stone Island, Lacoste and Hugo Boss tracksuits; Adidas, Ralph Lauren and Lacoste T shirts; Ugg boots, Michael Kors sandals and MAC make up.

Mr Ravie admitted the couple had spent 1,300 on the counterfeit products on the day they were stopped.

He claimed they had bought the items for family and friends but trading standards officers discovered the couple ran a Facebook group to sell the fakes and also posted items for sale on other Facebook selling groups in the North East.

As well as the unpaid work each was ordered to pay 888 prosecution costs and 85 victim surcharge. The couple voluntarily surrendered the seized items to trading standards for destruction.

North Yorkshires head of business and consumer services, Jo Boutflower, said: The ability of a business to protect its brands reputation through the use of a trademark, and the role of small, local retailers in selling those products, is vital to economic growth and productivity.

Trading standards officers do all that we can to support and protect legitimate businesses, and I hope this case sends a clear message that firm action will be taken against those who do not trade fairly and lawfully.

BUSINESS is all about relationships.

And the best relationships do not form by accident. They often begin at one of the many networking dinners, meetings, breakfasts and special events held on the Sunshine Coast every month.

No matter how large a region or city gets, word of mouth recommendations and a trusted acquaintance telling you, know someone who could help you with that will win out over random searches online or a vague flick through the Yellow Pages every time.

Prime Radio client manager Sally Waghorn started a networking club with a difference, aimed directly at young businesswomen, about four months ago.

The emphasis at Le Club De Femmes is on fun and creating an inspiring support network, rather than swapping business cards or hard and fast referrals.

had been to a number of chamber events and business referrals clubs and I wanted to develop something that was a bit more personal, she said.

order to refer somebody business, you need to get to know their business as well as get to know the business owner.

have replaced an obligation to refer with creating new and inspiring connections.

might not use each other business directly, but that okay. If we get to know each other business that may happen down the track.

Ms Waghorn said the first meeting started with 14 attendees, then grew to 24 and 36. Up to 40 people are expected at the next event at Sunshine Coast Honda on July 22.

There are no membership fees, no meeting fees and no strict criteria for entry you can arrive late and Ms Waghorn said she would even consider including men eventually.

Each meeting carries a theme, with the June event an Ugg boot garden party at sponsor business Urban Ponds in Mooloolaba and the next event and wheels

want it to be fun, she said. been to a lot of meetings that can get a bit boring, so we try and liven it up a bit.

time we meet, we go around and everybody introduces themselves.

is laidback and very casual and it gives people a voice who might feel a bit out of place at a big networking group.

want to create a support network to connect young business women, whether that young in business or young at heart. There is no age limit and we not stuck on only having one person from each industry.

is a really good energy about the group, and after every meeting my inbox is flooded with emails saying how great it was and what a breath of fresh air it was.

At the other end of the spectrum is global networking powerhouse organisation BNI (Business Network International).

Southern Cross Design Drafting director Ted Larson was a founding member of the Team Winning Edge chapter when it began in 2008.

The club, which has 50 members, was inducted into the hall of fame at the world BNI conference in Kuala Lumpur a week ago.

won the award for being Australia largest and most successful club, Mr Larson said.

was a great honour to accept the award on behalf of our local BNI director Rob Warburton.

were 506 delegates from 41 countries and a range of seminars and master classes.

Mr Larson also took the opportunity to arrange a one on one meeting with world BNI CEO Norm Dominguez while in Malaysia.

were asking me why I was going to the world conference and I told them I was going to sit down and meet the boss, he said.

became a goal of mine. And I used the network to make it happen. So we ended up having a couple of beers for a few hours in the Mandarin Lounge of the Mandarin Oriental hotel.

talked about BNI and how critical networking has become in today business world. It really is the new way of doing business. The two core values of BNI are Gain and the way the world does business

Malaysia is such a good entry point into Asia. There may be 17 recognised languages there but English is the common business language so it a great place to start doing business in that part of the world.

Mr Larson said he picked up good business leads from Singapore, Malaysia and India as a result of the conference. He is also likely to visit co national director of BNI India, Niiraj Shah, next year for his 40th birthday and that country national conference in February.

“The story of my family is one of triumph and sacrifice,” says Seg El (played by Cameron Cuffe) in a voiceover.”How we lead a revolution against tyranny. And now it falls on my shoulders to save my world.”

Of course, Strange’s warning is an interesting one. While he tasks Seg El with saving Krypton, presumably to ensure Kal El’s eventual birth and evolution into the Man of Steel, the unspoken truth hanging over the series is that without Krypton’s eventual demise,

Lotto players claimed they spotted a fix in last night’s 4.5million TV draw after a ball appeared to have two different numbers on it.

Stunned viewers were perplexed when they thought the say the red number 38 ball also having a number 33 printed on it.

When the ball was revealed during Ireland’s Lotto Plus 1 draw on Saturday evening, viewers were quick to spot it and questioned whether it was a ‘fix’.

But organisers today dismissed the claims and simply said it was an ‘illusion’ caused by a ‘brief reflection of light’.

A spokeswoman for the Irish National Lottery said the ‘illusion’ was caused by a ‘brief reflection of light’.

She said: ‘The National Lottery would like to assure its players of the integrity of Saturday night’s Lotto Plus 1 draw.

‘A brief reflection of light during filming caused an illusion and some players to think there were two numbers on ball 38.

‘This was not the case. The weight and size of all Lotto balls, and the numbers, are strictly checked in advance of each draw.

‘This process, as well as the draw itself, is independently observed by our auditors KPMG. ‘

Newcastle shop stocked fake designer goodsTHEY look like the ideal Christmas gifts for that difficult to please loved one.12:00, 22 NOV 2011Updated18:47, 26 FEB 2013This entire haul was were in a city centre shop after customers complained to Newcastle’s trading standards department about the quality of their purchases.

Officers then raided the ‘For Her’ shop in Monument Mall and seized around 250 counterfeit items, filling 20 large bags.

Investigators said the goods accounted for around 60% of the shop’s stock. The owner of the shop has been interviewed and an investigation is under way.

The apparent ‘designer’ labels included Ugg Boots, Boss perfume and Vivienne Westwood accessories.

After becoming aware of the complaints,

undercover trading standards officers did some test purchases and the garments were sent to the head offices of the companies involved. The companies then confirmed that the goods were not genuine.

David Ellerington, manager of Newcastle’s trading standards department, said: “We became aware of the allegations after two members of the public said they were not happy with the quality of the items they had purchased.”

Mr Ellerington confirmed an investigation is under way and the council hopes to gather enough evidence to prosecute the owner.

Coun Stephen Lambert, deputy cabinet member for community safety and regulation, said: “Without pre judging the outcome of any related criminal investigation by the city council’s officers,

there is clear evidence that the trade in counterfeit goods is hugely damaging to the economy.

“Any kind of trade in illegal goods damages the trade of legitimate traders who are trying to earn an honest living and they do not need that business being undermined by any criminal activity.

bailey uggs Nevada’s ghost towns

If you stand long enough in a Nevada ghost town, whispering winds may carry the voices of lost souls.

And while staying in a reportedly haunted hotel, as our group did on a recent visit, you may glimpse someone not quite there.

No sound emerged.

“I’ve never experienced her,” dining room manager Bruce Jabbour remarked later.

Then server Nicole Scobee shared her photo of a woman’s shadowy shape beside a smaller figure, who reportedly asked a cook “where’s David?”

It all adds to the mystique of what, in 1907, was the most luxurious hotel between San Francisco and Denver. That was after miners hit paydirt in the former “Queen of the Silver Camps.”

But the good times were fleeting, and the Mizpah eventually closed. New owners re opened it in 2011.

Tonopah Historic Mining Park where prospector Jim”Butler realized a rock he was about to throw at his lost burro was silver still has working machinery, rusting ore cars and minehead buildings.

Would you dare visit a haunted town at Halloween?Much of nearby Goldfield (current population 268) burned in 1923, but many buildings in the former boomtown once home to 20,000 residents survived. A miner’s saloon, vacant hotel, courthouse and high school, rustic cars, plus a mine locomotive date back to its heyday from 1903 40, when gold production totalled $86 million.

Visitors are sure to hear about swindlers and a short term lawman “Virgil Earp who died there of pneumonia, after which his more famous brother Wyatt quit his job as a casino pit boss and left for California.

Despite the decline, gold exploration continues, off and on, in the area.

GOLD POINT

With Herb Robbins maintaining three old fire trucks, Gold Point’s 27 residents feel safe.

Ranchers came first, silver miners in 1902, then gold seekers in 1927. With little water, no railroad and claim jumpers, however, the 1,

“It’s not open as a tourist resort, but Robbins who bought half the town after winning $222,000 in a Las Vegas casino welcomes visitors.

The fire marshal, sheriff and mayor rents out five cabins and the small home of late Senator Harry”Wiley. Robbins also keeps the post office (closed in 1978) intact and has a memento filled casino bar.

“Everyone has full access to my house for showers and water,” plus meals, the 61 year old Robbins said.

You can also visit false front western shops, including a mercantile.

And if you’ve ever had a hankering to buy a ghost town, for “$2 million cash I’d consider” selling (my share), Robbins said. (Esmeralda County owns the other half.)Just west of the bustling town of Beatty, off State Route 374 in the Bullfrog Hills, Rhyolite is one of Nevada’s most famous “ghosts.”

A boomtown of 5,000 from 1904 08, Rhyolite had several stone and concrete buildings, hotels, 53 saloons, banks, an ice plant, two electric plants, foundries, newspapers, a hospital, an opera house and a stock exchange.

But predictions of gold riches turned to dust, and by 1916 the lights were dimmed and most people gone. Scores of wooden buildings were moved elsewhere. Hollywood later made films and the ruins became a tourist attraction.

Little remains, but visitors can see the ruins of Rhyolite’s two storey stone school, a three storey bank, a 1906 house built with 50,000 wine and beer bottles,

At eight on the list of individual and family landowners are the farms and ranches of the Kidmans in Australia, to whom the actress Nicole Kidman is related, the survey said.

Theirs is the largest private, non monarchical, non state landholding on earth.

Kidman Holdings was founded by Sir Sidney Kidman in the 19th century.

He reputedly started the family firm after running away from home at the age of 13, with his sole possession a one eyed horse. He died in 1935.

Nicole Kidman was born in Honolulu but grew up in Australia.

Previously published research has found her ancestors Bridget and James Callachar arrived in Sydney on board the Agnes Ewing in January 1842.

They moved to Port Macquarie to work as agricultural labourers and had a son, Miss Kidmans great great grandfather.

A spokesman for the actress, whose father is a biochemist and mother a nursing instructor, declined to comment on the connection to Kidman Holdings.

Topping the list, according to the

research published in New Statesman magazine, is the Queen, who

Uggs became hugely popular in the early 2000s, with celebrities such as Kate Moss and Jennifer Aniston wearing them.

They were derided for being shapeless and sexless but millions still swear by the sheepskin lined boots for comfort and cosiness.

According to the CDC, food borne diseases cause nearly 76 million illnesses, 325 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths each year in the United States. This year, salmonella contaminated peanut butter caused 691 infections in 46 states, while e. coli tainted spinach made 200 people ill in 2006. In fact, as a recent Harris Interactive poll found, 73% of Americans are as concerned about food safety as they are about the war on terror.

Scared much? Fear less! We found a little, chewable tablet which, when taken three times a day, might make us immune to at least one of these illnesses.

A recent study from University College in Ireland found that probiotic strains helped reduce incidence, severity and duration of symptoms of pigs infected with salmonella, the most common cause of severe gastroenteritis in humans. Probiotics are living microorganisms that regulate bacteria in the immune system and digestive track.

Researchers don know exactly why they work just know that they do. Some theorize that probiotics work to strengthen the intestinal lining, allowing it to act more efficiently as a barrier to destructive organisms, or that the antimicrobial substances that they secrete can destroy harmful bacteria.

Which brings us to probiotics. In the past we written about kombucha, a tea rich in probiotics that also includes naturally occurring active enzymes, amino acids, antioxidants and polyphenols which combine to improve digestion, regulate metabolism, enhance immune function, aid weight loss, balance the appetite, assist liver function and maintain the health of skin, hair and cells.

Today, we just settle for not getting sick, and to that end there patent pending Vidazorb, chewable probiotic formulations that contain five billion bacterial colony forming units (CFUs) per dose. Five billion might seem like a lot, but the fact that the human body is made up of a staggering one quadrillion bacteria and the gastrointestinal tract hosts a massive 100 trillion bugs puts it in perspective. In a system this big, we need a lot of tiny bacteria billion, to be exact we can start worrying about bigger things.
